FAA Licensing based on foreign Licenses
Federal Aviation Regulation part 61.75 makes provision for licensed
foreign pilots of any CIAO member state to apply for an FAA (US) Private
Pilot License, issued on the basis of your foreign license. Here are the
steps to follow to apply for and activate your FAA PPL.
This license conversion enables you to rent aircraft in the U.S. or take
advanced flight training, like instrument/commercial/ATP, without having to
take the FAA private pilot written and practical test. The FAA certificate
will be label "Restricted" and carry the notation that it was issued on
the basis of your foreign pilot license so all the restrictions on your
foreign license will apply.
A person who is applying for a U.S. pilot certificate/rating on the basis
of a foreign license should allow at least 60 days before arriving at the
designated FAA Flight Standards District Office (FSDO) where the applicant
expects to receive the U.S. pilot certificate.
To authenticate your status and pilot license, you will need to complete
the Verification of Authenticity of Foreign License, Rating and Medical
certification form from the Airman Certification Branch, AFS-760 found at
the following web site:
http://www.registry.faa.gov.
Once the FAA has processed your request, they will send you a Letter of
Authenticity. You must bring this letter with you when you arrive to the
US. Please make sure you also bring all other pilot
documentation with you as well: foreign PPL, English transcript,
medical certificate or endorsement, logbook and passport.
Once you arrive in Florida, we will help you register with Integrated
Airman Certification and Rating Application electronic system, and set the
appointment with the FAA inspector.
After you received your "Restricted Private Pilot License", If you plan to
continue flight training, we will guide you so you can obtain the ratings
sought in the minimum of time. We work with the best Flight Training
facilities in Florida and can help you obtain any rating from single
engine PPL to Instrument and ATP.
